Disturbances in the Field is a new play set in a surreal world where the boundaries between spectator and artist and life and art gradually dissolve.
Three people enter a world of clutter and confusion and try to make sense of it. Is it an art gallery, jumble sale or simply a place to dance? Is this the place they were looking for? They hope someone will come to explain what it means and why they’re there! When someone does arrive, he knows nothing about the place. He doesn’t even know who he is! All he seems to know is music and poetry. His search for the truth of his own identity strikes a chord of recognition in the others that takes them beyond words and any of their expectations.
With live music, dance and poetic text under the direction of Corinne Harris, Disturbances in the Field will leave audiences with much more than answers.
The Elements World Theatre’s past productions include Headless in Eden (MESP 2007). Where’s the Power? A Rap Opera (2005 Fringe and 7-venue Scotland tour), and 3 Weird Women (2003 Fringe). Disturbances in the Field will be the company’s second full production for the MESP Festival and their first production at the Old Sheriff Court in Glasgow.
Writer Lee Gershuny (a/k/a Leeala), award-winning playwright in both the USA and the UK, is also an internationally published poet with “…an idiosyncratic turn of humour…with insights into human relationships.” – Chapman: Scotland’s Quality Literary Magazine.
The MESP Festival brings together a distinguished list of artists, scholars, grassroots spiritual activists and speakers and positively affirms the spiritual and cultural diversity of Scotland. The emphasis is on spiritual, educational, artistic and cultural approaches to peace and understanding.
The Elements World Theatre greatly appreciates financial support from The National Lottery Scottish Arts Council Awards for All and help in kind from the MESP.
For interviews, photographs or more information please contact Lee Gershuny on 0131 332 1418 or 07952 7942 98.
