Moving On
Monday, 2nd February 2004
The Elements and the Edinburgh Cyrenians presented the "Moving On Project," a Justice Project Programme for Refugee Week and The Edinburgh One Work Festival at St. George's West Church on the 19th of June.
The "Moving On Project" included free workshop/rehearsals, and a performance of "Moving On" with professional performing artists, asylum seekers, refugees and other local residents, followed by a Multi-cultural Food & Dance Party featuring Zuba, Capoeira, Waa Sylla, refugee musicians, etc.
"MOVING ON," an original dance/drama, was written & directed by Lee Gershuny, with material from, "I Didn't Come Here for Fun..." Report published jointly by Save the Children and the Scottish Refugee Council, 2000.
Synopsis:
Asylum seekers and Scottish people want to meet, but something or someone prevents them. Instead of fighting those against them, they create a fancy dress party which attracts the opposition, changes everyone's appearance and becomes a good time for all.
The Elements gratefully acknowledge financial assistance from the Scottish Arts Council and the City of Edinburgh Council with help in kind from Edinburgh Cyrenians.
