More About Where's the Power? A Rap Opera
Tuesday, 2nd August 2005
Where's the Power? A Rap Opera is The Elements World Theatre's brand new production for 2005. Artistic Director Lee Gershuny has worked closely with choreographer Paul Joseph to create a dynamic piece of dance theatre with Scottish-based artists from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Where's the Power? is a physical and colourful dramatisation of the universal conflict between Rulers and Outsiders, which merges rap lyrics and hip-hop with bollywood dance and music in a bold fusion of art forms and styles.
In a recognisable landscape of fear and conflict, the characters take part in battles of wit using words, rhythm and dance, while exploring issues of power, dignity and the human need to belong.
Where's the Power? A Rap Opera is an uplifting, contemporary and ultimately very human piece of theatre for all ages.
Where's the Power? A Rap Opera is a new, full-length version of a short work presented for the Edinburgh International Festival of Middle Eastern Spirituality and Peace and Refugee Week in Scotland, 2004. This version features a new musical score and introduces a fusion of rap/hip-hop with Bollywood music and dance.
